The Rancho Bernardo Dog Park is part of the Rancho Bernardo Community Park, which is under the auspices of the City of San Diego's Park and Recreation Department. To minimize costly damage and longer closure, the pens and playing fields are periodically closed during the rainy season. We appreciate your patience and understanding when they are closed.

Please remember it is a City ordinance that all dogs remain on leashes at all times in public places, except in the dog pens.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the pen and/or field closures or any other community park issues, please contact the designated officials who deal with the issues ~ our Dog Park Liaison at Rbns1nest@aol.com, or the Community Park office at (858) 538-8129. Thank you again for your patience and understanding when we deem it necessary to close the pens and playing fields.

Our Legislature took time out from the state budget crisis to pass a bill giving California pet owners the right to set up a legally enforceable trust to care for dogs, cats, horses or other animals. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the bill, SB685, last week. It takes effect Jan. 1. Before now, pet trusts in California were honorary, meaning they could not be legally enforced.

To ease the current overcrowding situation at the County Animal Shelters because summer is a busy time for us, from May 31 through August 30 we are waiving adoption fees for cats 6 months and older, and all dogs 5 years of age and older. Plus, fees are waived for any dog or cat that has been at the shelter more than 30 days. This promotion is at all three shelters, Carlsbad, San Diego and Bonita. Our website is www.sddac.com.

Adopt a Pet:
Due to the rise in home foreclosures, the local shelters have been overwhelmed with an influx of pets who need new, forever homes. If you are considering bringing a new pet into your home, please first consider adopting one of the thousands of pets at the shelters who are in need of a second chance in life. There are puppies, kittens, dogs and cats, all looking for a family to love them.
